Stu­dents of the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Sat­ellite Tech­nolo­gy” travel to Ar­menia as part of the ana­log Mars simu­lation AMADEE-24 of the Aus­trian Space Fo­rum (OeWF) to carry out exper­iments with their two ro­bots.

The “Mu­nich Man­age­ment Col­loqui­um” (MMK) is Ger­many's larg­est busi­ness con­gress. The Elite Net­work of Ba­varia ena­bled a total of ten mem­bers to partic­ipate free of charge in this top-class event, which took place from 5 to 6 March 2024 in the Au­dimax of the Tech­nical Uni­versi­ty of Mu­nich.

MWP alum­na Nora Kory stud­ied bio­chem­istry at LMU Mu­nich and spent nine months at the Whitehead Insti­tute for Bio­medi­cal Re­search/Massachu­setts Insti­tute of Tech­nolo­gy (MIT) for her mas­ter's thesis. To­day, the 38-ye­ar-old heads her own inde­pen­dent re­search group at the Har­vard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and en­courages young re­searchers to try new things and be cou­ra­geous.

Almost 300 guests came to Munich for the traditional New Year's Reception of the Max Weber Program (MWP) to celebrate together in the Great Hall of LMU Munich. The keynote speech on the topic of "Renunciation" was the kick-off for the new MWP theme for the year.

What new find­ings are there in the field of exper­imental re­search, acute treat­ment, pre­ven­tion and after­care for stroke? These ques­tions were dis­cuss­ed by speakers from vari­ous disci­plines at the Ru­dolf Vir­chow Cen­tre in Würzburg as part of the Win­ter School of the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Translational Medi­cine”.

In sum­mer 2023 and winter 23/24, sever­al na­tional and inter­na­tional scien­tists gave guest lec­tures at the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram "Sci­entific Com­puting". The topics ranged from ma­chine learn­ing in car acci­dents to the math­emat­ics be­hind super­con­duc­tors.

With the be­gin­ning of the new year, stu­dents of the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Bio­logi­cal Phys­ics” are once more set­ting out for their in-ter­na­tional re­search mod­ule with part­ners at, e.g., UC Irvine and UC Merced.

Andreas Schuß, a stu­dent of the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Ad­vanced Ma­terials and Pro­cess­es” fo­cused on novel cata­lyst de­velopment dur­ing his re­search stay at Insti­tuto de Tecnologia Química (ITQ) in Va­len­cia, Spain.

As part of our pod­cast “Five to Twelve” we con­duct criti­cal dis­cussions on cur­rent top­ics. On 1 De­cem­ber 2023 we met with Dr. Se­bas­tian Ku­bon to talk about the back­ground and con­se­quences of the cur­rent em­ploy­ment prac­tice in sci­ence and #Ich­Bin­Han­na.

Students of the Elite Graduate Program "Translational Neuroscience" gain insights into neuroscientific methods and current research projects at the clinic and the JMU.
