In the new “Bio­diver­sity, Cli­mate Change and Health” mod­ule from the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Global Change Ecol­ogy” at the Uni­versi­ty of Bay­reuth, stu­dents dis­cuss the rele­vant topic of inter­link­ages be­tween global change and health.

In the new mod­ule “Cli­mate Poli­cies and Eco­nom­ics” stu­dents from the Bay­reuth Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Global Change Ecol­ogy” learn about inter­na­tional cli­mate di­plomacy and eco­nomic con­cepts in the cli­mate change de­bate.

In this prac­tical course, stu­dents im­ple­ment­ed nu­meri­cal algo­rithms for use on su­percomput­ers. The focus was on the anal­ysis of paral­lelism as well as the ap­pro­priate use of mod­ern soft­ware de­velopment tools.

Eight final­ists have com­peted for the 8th BGCE Stu­dent Paper Prize for excel­lent stu­dent work in the field of Com­puta­tional Sci­ence and Engi­neer­ing. The deci­sion was taken at the SIAM CS&E con­fer­ence in early March.

On 14 Janu­ary 2021, Dr Stephan Merz from Inria in Nan­cy gave a guest lec­ture as part of the lec­ture series of the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram. In his lec­ture, Dr Merz ad­dressed the speci­fica­tion lan­guage TLA+.

Now that the previous International Doctoral Programs in the humanities, social sciences and economics will soon be withdrawing from their funding, three new programs in these disciplines have been accepted for funding.

For the fifth consecutive time, the Elite Graduate Program “Finance & Information Management” (FIM) has maintained the top rank in the nationwide CHE Master-Ranking.

Stu­dents of the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram "Cultural Studies of the Middle East" pre­sent­ed their the­matic dossi­er on the image of East­ern Eu­rope in the satiri­cal maga­zine Sim­plicis­simus with an online event and dis­cuss­ed it with ex­perts.

Students from the Elite Graduate Program “Responsibility in Science, Engineering and Technology” (M.A. RESET) took part in a workshop organized by the Centre for Science and Policy at the University of Cambridge.

At the start of a new se­mes­ter that once more will have to rely on online learn­ing and will pro­vide only few occa­sions of direct face to face social inter­ac­tions, stu­dents in of the TMP mas­ter pro­gram gather for an online work­shop that pro­vides cop­ing mechanisms for these spe­cial cir­cum­stanc­es.
