Design is more than a gimmick. At the “Design Thinking” Workshop students learned how to apply a “design approach” in difficult decision processes to develop innovative solutions collaboratively.

The aim of this panel discussion on policy consulting was to start a conversation between academic economists and politicians. The event, organized by the International Doctorate Program “Evidence-Based Economics” which took place on November 27th, 2018, created a platform for intense discussions.

In November 2018, after its successful start last year, the alumni event of the Elite Graduate Program “Finance and Information Management” took place for the second time in Munich. Former students from all 15 years, professors, practice partners and current students came together for this event.

Students of the Elite Graduate Program “Global Change Ecology” of the University of Bayreuth travelled to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, to participate in the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

This year’s traditional Get Together event attracted over 300 students and alumni. They used the Get Together as an informal setting in which to explore the Elite Network’s offerings, gain insights into potential careers in science and industry, and get to know new people beyond the boundaries of their disciplines and outside their own funding line.

Twenty-one students from the Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis degree program, two lecturers and a group coach climbed the Arber in November. The goal was the Zwieseler Hütte, which was to be a hostel, seminar venue and starting point for exciting interaction formats for two days.

Students of the Elite Graduate Program "Honours Degree in Technology Management" dealt in their elective course "Center Farming" with innovative approaches to combat world hunger and built a so-called "food computer".

Students and teachers of the Elite Graduate Program “Biological Physics” met at Thurnau castle to present and discuss ongoing research.

Students of the Elite Graduate Program “East European Studies” developed a thematic portal entitled “Leap into the Unknown – The Prague Spring (1968)” as part of a project course. The portal can be accessed on the Bavarian State Library’s research site Osmikon.

The three-day kick-off seminar of the Elite Graduate Program "Advanced Signal Processing and Communications Engineering" enables students to get to know their fellow students and to choose their personal mentor among the ASC professors.
