Hands-on: Using SCRUM in project work

At the end of 2019, the “Honors in Business, Economics and Information Systems“ elite studies program organized a workshop for agile project management (with its focus on SCRUM) together with Hubert Burda Media in Munich. In this workshop, the students studied the tasks of the different SCRUM roles and the purpose of the SCRUM meetings. Afterwards, the students had the necessary knowledge to successfully complete the SCRUM.org examination for the “Professional SCRUM Master I” certificate.

SCRUM Master training with certification

Sprint, Backlog, Product Owner, SCRUM Master: These are terms a certified SCRUM Master should be familiar with. SCRUM is a popular model for project and product management, especially in agile software development. During a one-day workshop, the SCRUM coaches Felix Huschka and Julia Obermaier of Valiton, a IT service provider at Burda, introduced these terms to 15 students of the Elite Graduatre Program “Honors in Business, Economics and Information Systems“ and gave many practical exercises.

In a Lego simulation, SCRUM teams had to construct an office building. At first, the students had to agree on an estimate of the effort required for the individual customer requirements (SCRUM Planning). In subsequent hands-on sprints, the students gained knowledge about the use of SCRUM in everyday project work. The building’s construction was continuously optimized from sprint to sprint, taking into account the detailed customer requirements.
