Lena Schorr, a PhD stu­dent in the Puschhof Lab at the Ger­man Can­cer Re­search Cen­ter (DKFZ) in Hei­del­berg, at­tend­ed the 72nd Lindau No­bel Lau­reate Meet­ing from 25 to 30 June 2023 at the invi­tation of the Elite Net­work of Ba­varia.

This year, the Max We­ber Pro­gram sent out invita­tions to its tradi­tional sum­mer cele­bra­tion in the beau­tiful Alt­mühl­tal. A well-over 150 guests ac­cept­ed the invita­tion to cele­brate to­geth­er, meet other schol­arship hold­ers and get to know the uni­versi­ty town of Eichstätt.

Dr. Jan Böt­tcher’s In­terna­tional Junior Re­search Group has deci­phered a mechanism that switches off im­mune re­sponses in tu­mors and points to new tar­gets for can­cer thera­py.

On 3 and 4 June 2023, around 40 schol­arship hold­ers of the Max We­ber Pro­gram spent a won­derful week­end at the Youth Hos­tel Augsburg. They ex­plored gen­der-sensitive medi­cine from dif­ferent per­spec­tives.

At the ASC Fo­rum, stu­dents pre­sent their re­search pro­jects to their ASC pro­fes­sors, fellow stu­dents and inter­ested FAU stu­dents. Fol­low­ing the presenta­tions and the poster exhi­bition, there is a prize for the best post­er.

MAOT stu­dents travel to ASML - the world mar­ket leader in li­thog­raphy sys­tems and key actor for the worldwide chip indus­try.

Bud­ding mate­rials scien­tists use 3D print­ing to de­velop physi­cal mod­els that mimic the radia­tion re­sponse of the hu­man breast, for opti­miz­ing vari­ous as­pects of radio­thera­py and for the train­ing of young physi­cians.

At the AI Camp, the Ger­man Asso­cia­tion of Com­puter Sci­ence hon­ored ten young re­searchers with the AI-Newcomer Award 2023. Nora Gourmel­on, who is part of the Inter­na­tional Doc­torate Pro­gram "M³OCCA", is one of the awardees.

The Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Ba­varian Grad­uate School of Com­puta­tional Engi­neer­ing“ awarded the 9th Stu­dent Paper Prize at the in­tertnational SIAM CS&E 23 con­fer­ence to Shane McQuarrie of the Uni­versi­ty of Texas at Aus­tin.

The Ba­varian Grad­uate School of Com­puta­tional Engi­neer­ing pro­gram holds its yearly open­ing week­end in an in-pres­ence meet­ing for 2023; wel­com­ing the in­com­ing batch with team-building and shared ex­peri­ences by the sen­iors and alum­ni.
