SELECTION AT SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL

In order to become a member of the Max Weber-Program at the earliest stage possible, you need to pass your university/university of applied sciences entrance exam (“Abitur” or “Fachabitur”) with a grade of at least 1.30. The head of your school will then have to propose you for admission to the so-called “MB-Prüfung”, the exam for the highly gifted at the Secondary School Board.

This “MB-Prüfung” is a graded oral exam and the examiners are teachers at Bavarian schools as well as the head of the Secondary School Board (“Ministerialbeauftragter”) of the relevant Bavarian administrative district. This exam is aimed at revealing the candidates’ level of education as well as their exceptional talent and extensive general knowledge.


Prerequisites for the admission to the exam at the Secondary School Board (“MB-Prüfung”)

  • University entrance qualification from a Bavarian school
  • Average grade of at least 1.30 in the university entrance qualification

Minimum requirements for candidates from ordinary high-schools in the lower and upper sixth form (“gymnasiale Oberstufe”):

  • Sum of at least 524 credit points from block I (qualification period), 209 of which need to come from the subjects German, maths, a foreign language and from either the subject history or a natural science (which the candidate must have attended for four semesters)
  • Sum of at least 250 credit points from block II (final university entrance exams)

Minimum requirements for candidates from technical and vocational high-schools (e.g. FOS/BOS): 

  • Average grade of at least 1.50 (12.5 points) in the written or practical examinations, with no grade below 2 (10 points) 

Minimum requirements for candidates from vocational schools who acquire their higher education entrance qualification by successfully passing the exam for highly gifted employees:

  • Total sum of at least 428 credit points in the higher education entrance qualification and at least 38 credit points (single-weighted) in the written exams


Prerequisites for the admission to the Max Weber-Program

  • You need to pass the exam for the highly gifted at the Secondary School Board („MB-Prüfung“)
  • Availability of places (currently 200 per year)
  • Enrolment at a Bavarian university
