Lecture on the Nobel Laureates

The student council WASTI of the LMU Munich organizes an annual lecture that honours the Nobel Prize winners in economics. Usually this lecture is held by a member of the Munich faculty of economics. This year, with the support of the programme "Evidence- Based Economics", it was possible to invite an external guest who has already published together with two of the three 2019 laureates.

Duflo, Banerjee and Kremer stand for evidence-based economic research

Clément Imbert is a young French professor who teaches and researches at the University of Warwick in England. His main research field is development economics, which explores economic issues in developing countries. The focus is often on the analysis of the effects of reforms and programmes.

Clément Imbert has carried out two such projects together with Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee in India. The authors used randomized experiments, which have gained enormously in importance over the last 20 years through the work of Nobel Prize winners Duflo, Banerjee and Kremer. This evidence-based approach is in line with the focus of the International Doctorate Program "Evidence-Based Economics". In his lecture, Clément Imbert offered the audience an insight into his current collaboration with Duflo and Banerjee. He also praised the work and influence of the prize winners on political decision- making and their impact on the scientific discourse.
