From biotech startup till professorship
At the beginning of the event, Prof. Dr. O. Behrend introduced the PhD program of the LMU Graduate School of Systemic Neuroscience - Brain & Mind. This talk was followed by Professor Dr. S. Lichtenthaler, who gave a brief overview of the PhD program “Medical Life Science and Technology” of the Medical Faculty of the TU Munich.
All of the further speakers were former employees or cooperation partners of the Institute of Neuronal Cell Biology. They presented their exciting and quiet diverse career paths. One of the speakers was the founder of a biotech start-up, who managed to implement a good idea into an aspiring company with the help of funding from the government. A professor reported from her successful academic career and a postdoc from Switzerland explained how she succeed in combining her work and family life. The final speaker of the day was a data analyst who discovered her knowledge and interest in data science during her PhD time at the institute.
The talks were followed by a small get together, were the students of the Elite Graduate Program "Biomedical Neuroscience" had the opportunity to ask the speakers further questions. Due to the very positive feedback from the students, the decision was made to integrate the Career Day into next year’s introductory week, too.
