Values in shifting perspectives
What are the impli­cati­ons of mean­ing and values for us? How can the natu­ral sci­ences con­trib­ute as we con­tem­plate our val­ues? These were among the issues ex­plored at the 10th edi­tion of the Elite Net­work of Ba­varia FO­RUM. This year’s inter­disci­pli­nary series of lec­tures, enti­tled “Fu­ture val­ues?! – A change in per­spec­tive”, was held at the Uni­versi­ty of Re­gens­burg.

And the winner is …
This year, the Elite Net­work of Ba­var­ia’s tradi­tional EliteCup was con­tested at the Uni­versi­ty Sports Cen­ter Mu­nich (ZHS). The team from the Hon­ors – Busi­ness, Eco­nom­ics and In­for­mation Sys­tems pro­gram won the cov­eted tro­phy for the first time.

Between East and West
The annu­al “Honors” Academy of the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Honors in Busi­ness, Eco­nom­ics and In­for­mation Sys­tems” took the stu­dents to Pra­gue this year. In keep­ing with the topic “Do­ing Busi­ness be­tween East­ern and West­ern Eu­rope”, the stu­dents were pre­sent­ed with an aca­demi­cally and cul­turally varied pro­gram.

The highlight of every year
Among other topics, students dealt with inclusion, outdoor education and teacher’s health during the spring school of 2018 at Kloster Banz. Exchange on school-relevant, subject-specific as well as personal issues formed the core of the cross-university meeting.

Two days of "Gender Gaga" in Beilngries
Is gen­der re­search my busi­ness? Yes, it is, ac­cord­ing to the Max We­ber schol­ars con­fer­ence on gen­der re­search in April 2018 in Beilngries. The Max We­ber Pro­gram invit­ed its schol­ars to ap­proach the sub­ject from dif­ferent pro­fes­sional per­spec­tives.

Figuring out light
The Junior Re­search Group is well con­nect­ed to the re­search com­muni­ty of the Uni­versi­ty of Bay­reuth. Her group is linked to the Elite Grad­uate Pro­gram “Bio­logi­cal Phys­ics”, which aims at an inter­disci­pli­nary edu­cation of excel­lent stu­dents of biolo­gy, phys­ics and bio­chem­istry.

Challenges of mid-sized cities in Asia
For six months, Maria Mejia worked at the Ger­man Agency for Inter­na­tional Co­opera­tion (GIZ) and the Asian De­velopment Bank (ADB) as an intern for Ca­pacity De­velopment and Sus­taina­ble Cities. This gave her access to the inner soul of two of the great­est multi­lateral organ­iza­tions boost­ing de­velopment pro­jects worldwide.

Research In-Situ in the Maldives
Max Weber Program scholarship holder Sebastian Steibl spent three months conducting research in the Maldives with the support of the Research In-Situ program. His research was focused on how human activities impact small (island) ecosystems.
