Summer School - Smart Transformation in the Energy Sector

Eva Kaari Ntara, a M.Sc. Global Change Ecology student at the University of Bayreuth, completed her science school this summer. It was held in Bucharest, Romania from 23rd to 27th July 2018.

The summer school was well organized by a passionate team working at the Energy Policy Group; an independent think tank specialized in energy markets, energy policy and energy strategy analysis in the European Union. Eva Ntara was especially curious to learn about European policy on energy. She gained much interest in the topic after she took part in an engaging nuclear versus renewables debate in a class seminar.

The school was strategically subdivided into five key themes including Trends of the International Energy Markets, the Past and Future Development of Nuclear Energy, the Transformation of Transport, Energy Efficiency and Digitization and Sustainability in the Energy Sector. The speakers were high-ranking professionals working in the energy sector throughout Europe. Eva was really inspired by presenters as they spoke from an experienced point of view which made the sessions very interesting and interactive.

Notably, the venues were really diverse, from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, EFdeN House, OMV Petrom Headquarters to a Nuclear Power Plant. In the end, she realized that working in a nuclear power plant is the safest job one can ever get in their lifetime!

Eva Ntara believes that her expectations were fully met through the delicate balance of sessions, talks, a world energy simulation game and a design thinking workshop. She got an opportunity to meet wonderful people and formed a network of change makers in this dynamic energy sector. She would highly recommend this summer school to the Elite Network of Bavaria members. It is a perfect opportunity to learn, develop a network, interact and connect with Energy Professionals and other motivated participants from across the globe.
