Ceremonial Opening of the International Doctoral Program (IDP) MIMESIS 2014/15

After having gone through a second application process early last summer, the IDP Mimesis has accepted five more doctoral students and one associated member to join the Mimesis group that started its work in October 2013. The new members originate in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Argentina. The completion of the doctorate course was celebrated with an opening lecture by Hans-Thies Lehmann, renowned author of Postdramatic Theatre and professor emeritus at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt. After his reflections on mimetic behaviour (“Art, Anger and Politics”) and a subsequent discussion with the audience, the attending professors, doctoral students and guests were invited to join in the feast in the LMU-Senatssaal with a buffet and drinks.

Artists in Conversation

The opening celebration of the IDP Mimesis was also the ‘kick-off’ for this winter’s series of conversations between artists and academics on the impact of mimesis in works of art. On November 11th, 2014, the first guest to elaborate on his view on mimesis and art was the German filmmaker Edgar Reitz. The ‘academic side’ was represented by Prof. Dr. Fabienne Liptay (University of Zurich) who is one of the professors of the IDP. Above all, Liptay and Reitz spoke about The Other Heimat (Die andere Heimat), the third and most recent part of the filmmaker’s famous Heimat trilogy, that was released in 2013.

The members of the IDP Mimesis are happy to invite everyone interested to attend the upcoming artist talks during this winter semester:
